Focus and Scope
The inaugural issue of The Tower, an interdisciplinary research journal for undergraduates at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will be released in Fall 2008. Articles may discuss theoretical or empirical work, including, for example, experimental, historical, ethnographic, case study, and/or literary/cultural inquiry. The journal strives to appeal to readers in the academy and industry. Articles should be easily understood by bachelors-educated individuals of any discipline. Although The Tower will review submissions of highly technical research for potential inclusion, submissions must be written to educate the audience rather than simply report results to an expert audience in a particular field. Submissions of original research must be well supported by evidence, arguments must be clear, and conclusions must be logical. Fiction, poetry, and creative writing will not be accepted.

Articles
Peer Review Process
After passing a preliminary check by the Associate Editor for Submission and Review for adherence to formatting standards and submission of all required consent forms and supplementary materials, submissions typically will be reviewed by two student reviewers from related disciplines and one member of the review advisory board. Along with the AESR, a decision will be made at this state to accept the article, accept the article with revisions, or to reject the article.
Reject
Submitter will be informed that the article will not be included in the current issue, and invited to submit again next year, if eligible.
Accept
Article will be recommended to the EIC and Review Advisory Board for submission. Submitter will be informed that the article is in the final stage of consideration for inclusion
Accept with Revisions
Article will be returned to the submitter for revision with the understanding that the paper will be recommended for acceptance to the EIC and Review Advisory Board if the recommended revisions are made satisfactorily. Submitter will have two weeks to resubmit revised article. The article will then be re-read by the AESR and three original reviewers to decide whether to recommend the article to the EIC and Review Advisory Board for submission. Status will be "Accept" or "Reject" at this time as explained above.
**It is important to understand that a final status of "accept" does not necessarily mean that the Editorial Board will decide to include the article in this year's journal. There are many factors that will determine the final mix of the journal, and if the final set of accepted articles is not balanced to the satisfaction of the board, articles may be "held over" until the next year's issue.
Submissions will be accepted until January 9, 2008.
The Review Process is expected to be completed in April, 2008.
Reviewers
Reviewers are chosen through an application process and must have as much research experience as possible. Review experience is a plus. Reviewers will be a mix of undergraduate and graduate students, and training will be provided. See www.GTTower.org for an application.
Publication Frequency
The Tower will be published one time per year in an online and print format. Authors will be notified on or before April 14th regarding manuscript acceptance. Authors should expect frequent communication with the Associate Editor for Submission and Review and Associate Editor for Production during the review process to ensure accuracy and resolve any editorial issues. The Tower is expected to be published in the early Fall of 2008.
Open Access Policy
The Tower is an open access publication.
